ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is a component of traditional Chinese medicine that originated in China over 5,000 years ago. It is based on the belief that living beings have a vital energy, called qi that circulates through twelve energy lines known as meridians on the body. Each meridian is associated with a different organ system. The Chinese believe that an imbalance in the flow of qi throughout a meridian is how disease begins.
The meridians can be influenced by needling the acupuncture points; the acupuncture needles unblock the obstructions and reestablish the regular flow through the meridians. Acupuncture treatments can therefore help the body's internal organs to correct imbalances in their digestion, absorption, and energy production activities, and in the circulation of their energy through the body.
