HOMOEOPATHY
Homoeopathy is a Western system of medicine developed by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann that is based on the principle that 'like cures like'. Traditional medicine often incorporates this same belief. For example, a flu shot is used to prevent the flu. The shot contains small amounts of the flu virus, the idea being that likes cure likes. Homoeopaths treat illness by using small doses of specially prepared medicine derived from plants, minerals and other substances. Rather than simply suppressing symptoms of a disease, homoeopathic remedies act as catalysts that aid the body's inherent healing mechanisms.
Homoeopathic practitioners select remedies according to a total picture of the patient, including not only symptoms but lifestyle, emotional and mental states, and other factors. The right remedy for a particular condition addresses all of these aspects and requires a highly individualised diagnosis and treatment which is safe, gentle and effective.
